Hyderabad: Acknowledging differences with VHP (Vishwa Hindu Parishad) on the approach
towards Ayodhya issue, BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) on February 13 asserted that the
NDA (National Democratic Alliance) government would 'never act under pressure' from
any quarter and made it clear that everybody has to abide by the court
verdict.
"We never succumbed to any pressure. The issue here is that some people are getting
restive because of delay in resolving the dispute," the party president M Venkaiah
Naidu told reporters in Hyderabad.
Claiming that there was no link between VHP's Dharma Sansad, slated for February 22,
and the government approaching Supreme Court for vacating stay on religious
activities on the undisputed land in Ayodhya, he said the government's decision was
guided by the desire to resolve the dispute expeditiously.
While asserting that his party wanted a 'magnificent Ram temple' be constructed in
Ayodhya, he, however, said the dispute should be resolved either through negotiations
or court verdict.
Taking a strong objection to Congress favouring status quo in Ayodhya, the BJP chief
said, "It shows that Congress wants the dispute to continue forever while we want its
early resolution."
Naidu declined to comment on Supreme Court's refusal to take up before February 21
the Centre's plea for hearing its application seeking vacation of an earlier apex
court order banning religious activity on the undisputed land.
