Kolkata: Star striker Baichung Bhutia, who returned to on-field action on Friday
after a two-month injury-prompted hiatus, said that he was feeling fit and expressed
satisfaction with his display in his comeback match.
Bhutia, who donned the jersey of his club Mohun Bagan in the second half of the
National Football League (NFL) match against Mohindra United during the day, said
that he was satisfied with the speed at which he recovered from the calf muscle
injury which sidelined him last December.
"I'm fitter now. I had no trouble on the ground today. I also went for tackles,"
Bhutia, the first Indian footballer to play in the English professional league, told
reporters.
Bhutia said that he was looking forward to the remaining matches of the high-profile
league and hoped that he would be able to serve his club well in its bid to move up
in the 12-horse race.
With 21 points from 13 outings, title holders Bagan now stands 12 points adrift of
leader East Bengal. However, Bhutia said that he was disappointed at his club
finishing goalless against Mahindra.
"I'm disappointed that we did not win. We are in a situation where we have to win
every match," he said, adding he was hopeful of his side's prospects in the ongoing
league.
