New Delhi: In a diplomatic victory on the anti-terrorist front, India has been
elected founder chairman of the recently formed World Youth Council against
Terrorism (WYCAT).
G Kishan Reddy, national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) youth wing
Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), was elected head of the council, a
confederation of youth organisations, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), experts
and political activists from across the globe launched at the International Youth
Conference on Terrorism, which concluded recently.
"WYCAT will plan and execute a time-bound action plan to bring about greater
awareness among the people all over the world with the objective of isolating it
completely. The council will organise programmes at international, national,
regional and sub-regional levels," Reddy said.
An apolitical body, WYCAT will also conduct conferences, seminars and workshops to
mobilise public opinion against terrorism, he said adding, "On the action side, a
fund is planned to assist in the task of the rehabilitation of victims of terrorism."
A total of 195 delegates from 55 countries, who participated in the recent
conference, had also unanimously approved 'New Delhi Declaration of Youth Against
Terrorism', a charter of commitments of international youth and a comprehensive
action plan to tackle terrorism.
"We succeeded in exposing Pakistan's double standards and its nefarious role in
exporting terrorism to India," Reddy added.
