15 Bangladeshi intruders pushed back by BSF
Friday, February 14 2003 13:21 Hrs (IST)

Balurghat (WB): At least 15 Bangladeshis, including women and children, were prevented from crossing the border at Sonarpur in South Dinajpur district by the Border Security Force (BSF).

District superintendent of police Gyanbant Singh told reporters that following the BSF action, the Bangladeshi group is camping at a point near the border in Bangladesh.

BSF and Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) are holding talks on the issue, Singh said.

In the face of mounting diplomatic pressure from India, Bangladesh took back 213 of its nationals from the no man's land on the Indo-Bangladesh border on February 6 ending a seven-day impasse.

The 213 Bangladeshi migrants, most of them snake-charmers, were stranded on the no man's land since January 31 when BDR's attempt to push them into India was blocked by BSF guards along the Indo-Bangla border.
