Mangalore: Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) international general secretary Pravin
Togadia on February 14 said the Supreme Court verdict could not solve the Ram temple
issue and Legislation was the only solution.
"The only way to solve it (temple issue) is through a Legislation," Togadia told
reporters.
Togadia said VHP expected that "good sense" would prevail among all political
parties as well as Muslim leaders to consider "our sentiments for the birth place of
Rama".
"Why can't Congress and BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) come together on the issue of
Lord Rama's birthplace and pass a Legislation for construction of temple?" he
asked.
Appealing to Congress president Sonia Gandhi to support the temple construction, he
said the Congress should join "pro-Hindu movement to help themselves and it will be
an advantage to them".
Saying that the Congress should respect the sentiments of Hindus who constituted 85
per cent of the population, Togadia said if it did not help in building the Ram
temple by a Legislation, "the entire party will go into darkness".
Togadia said the "Marga Darshak Mandal" meeting to be held in Delhi on February 21
would chalk out the agenda for building the temple and a resolution on the issue
would be passed at the three-day "Dharma Sansad" congregation from February
22.
Reiterating that India should be acknowledged as "Hindu rashtra", he said the
VHP's "final goal" was to create India as a "Hindu nation".
