Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on February 16 said the
government is formulating an education policy to make provision for reserving seats
to children below poverty line families in public schools in the state.
Addressing first annual day function of SOS Hermann Gmeiner school, a part of
community project of SOS children's villages of India in Jammu, he said any public
school that will get any facility from the state government, shall have to reserve
some percentage of seats for poor students free of cost so that socially and
economically deprived sections of the society can also be benefited from the quality
education.
He advised the management of the SOS children's village to follow this principle in
their school as well.
Emphasising that physical and mental development is vital for the total growth of the
child, Sayeed said both these aspects have a direct bearing on their total
personality.
