Islamabad: Pakistan on February 16 handed over weapons and ammunition to Afghanistan
government officials as military assistance, promised under the Bonn Conference that
installed the Hamid Karzai government in Kabul.
The weapons were handed over to Afghan authorities as part of Islamabad's commitment
to support and strengthen the Central government, including the raising of the
National Army of Afghanistan, official news agency APP reported.
The weapons were handed over at a ceremony to Rahmatullah Musaghazi, Afghan
Minister, Counsellor and Charge d' Affaires in Pakistan at Chaklala airbase near
Islamabad.
The assortment included 5,000 (sub machine guns) MP5A3s, 180 mortars (82 mm
calibre), 75 rocket-propelled grenades (RPG-7) with 50,000 rounds of sub machine
gun, 10,000 mortar bombs and 750 rockets of RPG-7.
The Pakistan Armed Forces would also train the personnel of Afghan National Army at
various military training institutions, APP quoted officials as saying.
