New Delhi: Giving a new impetus to bilateral ties, India and Poland will sign an
extradition treaty during Polish Prime Minister Leszek Miller's state visit on
February 17.
Besides signing the treaty, Miller, who is on a four-day visit, will also hold wide-
ranging discussion with Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee on the entire range of
bilateral relations and on important regional and international issues of mutual
interest.
The visit is mainly aimed at giving a new dimension to bilateral ties with special
focus on enhancing trade and economic co-operation.
Bilateral agreements in the fields of combating organised crime and international
terrorism, Defence co-operation and a cultural exchange programme are also expected
to be inked.
New Delhi is attaching considerable importance to the visit, the first by a Polish
Premier to India after Poland's transition to a multi-party Democracy in the early
1990s.
The visit is also taking place at a time when Poland is on the threshold of joining
the European Union and when diplomatic relations between the two countries are set
to enter their golden jubilee year.
The Iraq crisis, the Middle East situation and developments in Afghanistan are
expected to figure during the parleys.
The Polish leader will call on President A P J Abdul Kalam and Vice-President
Bhairon Singh Shekhawat and have meetings with a number of senior ministers.
