Jalandhar: Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on February 16 described
the "naming" of two his Cabinet colleagues and another person in the "sex racket"
said to have been unearthed by Gujarat police as "politically motivated" and
a "desperate" act of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) keeping in view coming
Assembly elections in Himachal Pradesh (HP).
Amarinder Singh, answering reporters' questions said, "I will instruct my men to
file defamation case against Gujarat Home Minister Amit Shah. It is a well planned
strategy to defame Punjab government in response to allegations made by me against
Himachal Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal."
Singh said he had "full faith" in his men and they are "absolutely clean". Terming
the move as "politically motivated and a desperate act of the BJP keeping in mind
the HP poll," he said BJP has "stooped to its lowest ebb because of impending
defeat" in Assembly elections in the hill state.
He claimed that Amit Shah had 15 days back chalked out the strategy to attack the
Punjab government. "The case and the naming of ministers is part of the strategy."
Partap Singh Bajwa (Public Works Department), one of the two Ministers named in the
alleged racket, said there was not even an "iota of truth" in the allegation against
him and another Minister Amarjeet Singh Samra (Revenue and Rehabilitation).
The political motive is evident from the fact that the third named Arvinder Singh
Lovely is neither a Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) nor a Minister, Bajwa said.
