Srinagar: A security officer was killed on the spot and a jawan injured in a mine blast, suspected to have been caused by militants, in Anantnag district of South Kashmir on February 17, official sources said.

The blast took place at 8.00 am (IST) hours, when their vehicle ran over an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by militants at Dooni Puwa, 45 kms from Srinagar, sources said.

Sub inspector of Indo Tibetan Border Police Sri Chand was killed instantaneously while the jawan was injured, they said.

Although no militant outfit has claimed responsibility for the blast, police suspected the hand of Hizbul Mujahideen.
