New Delhi: Congress on February 18 said it was not opposed to construction of Ram
temple at Ayodhya but the site for it should be decided by a court of law.
"Congress is not opposed to construction of Ram temple but it is for the court do
decide where it should be constructed in Ayodhya," party spokesman Satyabrata
Chaturvedi told reporters in New Delhi.
He said the ruling BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) was trying to get the Supreme Court
stay vacated on the acquired land to facilitate construction of the temple.
Chaturvedi accused BJP and Sangh Parivar of raking up the Ayodhya issue before the
budget session of Parliament keeping in view the Assembly polls in some
states.
He parried a question on what has happened to former Prime Minister P V Narasimha
Rao's promise to construct a masjid at its original site.
