Bomb explodes near Raj Bhavan in Mizoram
Tuesday, February 18 2003 10:56 Hrs (IST)

Aizawl: A bomb exploded near Raj Bhavan in Aizawl at 10.00 pm (IST) on February 17 night, on the eve of state wide procession in protest against the proposal of the delimitation committee.

Superintendent of police Zorammawia said security was beefed up following the incident.

The police suspected the explosive to be gelatine and investigations were on.

Some political parties, including the Janata Dal-United (JD-U), alleged that the proposal to delimit 40 Assembly constituencies in the state to ensure that minorities like the Chakmas and Brus have more legislators was the handiwork of state Governor Amolak Rattan Kohli.

A police officer said the explosion might have been carried out by some miscreants, who believed what some politicians said against the governor.
