Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh government has taken up with the Defence Ministry to
strengthen road communication along Mac-Mohan line in view of ongoing massive
infrastructural development across the border in China.
"Security of the country should be the utmost consideration," said Takam Sanjoy,
government spokesman and Education Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, which has about
1,500 km international border with China.
Development of the state's border area could not be ignored in view of
its "strategic sensitive" nature and Arunachal Pradesh government had drawn the
Centre's attention to the problem on different occasions, he told reporters on
February 19.
The situation was compounded by the rising unemployment in the state and "certain
elements inimical to the unity and integrity of the country were posing a threat to
our society".
The Centre could consider raising a regiment to enrol the youth of the state
belonging to various ethnical groups, he said.
About the recent Cabinet meeting, Sanjoy said it had approved Arunachal Pradesh
Local Authorities Prohibition of Defection Bill-2003, which would be placed before
the Assembly during the current session for adoption in tune with 10th schedule of
Defection Law with inclusion of local bodies.
The meeting also approved the new tourism policy to develop tourism in the state.
