Moscow: Defence co-operation between India and Russia has transcended "buyer-seller"
relationship and is moving ahead in "technology-sharing," External Affairs Minister
Yashwant Sinha said after holding talks with his Russian counterpart Igor Ivanov on
February 20.
"Further prospects of our Defence co-operation are very bright," Sinha said at a
joint press conference after two-and-half hour-long parleys with Ivanov.
India and Russia have transcended the "buyer-seller" relationship and are moving
ahead in "technology-sharing", he said, adding Indo-Russian Defence co-operation
would continue to grow stronger.
He said Iraq, North Korea and Afghanistan figured in his talks with Russian Foreign
Minister.
Expressing concern over reported regrouping of al-Qaida and Taleban along Pak-
Afghanistan border, he said, "Both Russia and India have a convergence of views on
Afghanistan regarding the need to strengthen and stabilise the Karzai government in
Kabul."
Echoing similar views, Ivanov said, "The repetition of 1990s scenario would be
tragedy for Afghanistan and pose most serious threat to the security of its
neighbours."
