New Delhi: The Supreme Court on February 21 fixed March 6 for hearing of the
application filed by the Union government, seeking vacation of its interim order,
banning all kinds of religious activities in the 67-acre acquired land around the
disputed structure at Ayodhya.
The matter will be heard by a five-judge constitution Bench on that day.
Despite vehement objections by All India Muslim Personal Law Board, Babri Masjid
movement co-ordination committee and others, a Bench comprising chief justice V N
Khare and justice A R Lakshmanan agreed with Union of India saying, "We feel it is
just and expedient if the application for early hearing is listed before a five-
judge constitution Bench on March 6, along with the main petition."
The Union of India in its application had sought vacation of the March 13 and 14,
2002 interim order of the Supreme Court banning all kinds of religious activities in
the acquired land.
