20 injured in Nagaland in firing by Samata activists

Kohima: At least 20 people were injured when Samata Party supporters fired on villagers during campaigning for the February 26 Assembly polls by the Congress candidate at a village in Mokochung district in Nagaland, official sources said on February 22.

The trouble broke out on February 21 after Samata Party supporters began stoning villagers of Waromung and then opened fire as Youth Congress workers from nearby Changki village, the home of Industries and Commerce Minister and Congress candidate I Imkong, left, the sources said.

Some were seriously injured in the firing, the sources said.

Nine mm bullets recovered from the spot by Congress workers were handed over to the administration.

Earlier on February 18, 30 persons were injured in clashes between supporters of the Congress and Nagaland People's Front at Khar village in the same district, the sources said.

The sources said that 10 government employees were arrested in this connection from the village, the home of NPF secretary general Chubatemjen Ao.
