Siliguri: With the fate of six Bangladeshis stranded on no-man's land in South
Dinajpur undecided for the fourth day on February 22, another 10 were arrested in
Murshidabad district for overstaying in India.
The six Bangladeshis, including a woman and two children spent another night in the
open at Dakshinpara in Hilli subdivision, with the Border Security Force (BSF)
having written to the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR), who have been refusing to take them
back after pushing them in on February 19, BSF sources said.
BSF 5 Battalion commander D S Rathore has written to his BDR counterpart, asking him
to take back the Bangladeshis.
Indian villagers who are themselves poor took pity on the plight of the Bangladeshi
family, particularly two 18 month old children and have been giving them bread and
milk to survive, additional district magistrate Goutam Ghosh said.
The BDR at a flag meeting on February 20 refused to take back Muhammad Kamal (27),
his wife Sajida (23) and their three children, who are residents of Bangladesh's
Rangpur district, and a family friend Muhammad Sahidul Alam (31) of Khulna district.
Meanwhile, another 10 Bangladeshis were arrested from Pallishree area of Murshidabad
district on February 19 night for overstaying in India, superintendent of police
Birendra said.
The 10, who were Hindus, were produced in a local court on February 21, which
remanded them to police custody for three days.
They had crossed over into this country in batches over the last one year, Birendra
said.
