Saturday, February 22 2003 15:18 Hrs (IST)

Islamabad: Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has been permitted by the Pakistan government to go to London for heart surgery.

Sharif, currently living in exile in Saudi Arabia, underwent an angiograph test on February 21 in a hospital at Jeddah and would shortly go to London to undergo heart surgery, Pakistan daily 'The Nation' reported on February 22.

Sharif's family had requested Pakistan government to allow the former Premier to proceed to London, accompanied by his father, for medical treatment for a duration of two weeks and the permission has been granted, the report said.

Recently, Sharif's brother Shahbaz, who is also living in Jeddah, was permitted to go to US to undergo surgery for appendicitis and he too could be moved to London, reports said.
