Mamata mounts pressure on LF govt over molestation
Monday, February 24 103 21:56 Hrs (IST)

Ranaghat (WB): Mounting pressure on the Left Front government, capitalising on the recent incident of rape and molestation at Dhantala on women returning from a wedding, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on February 24 declared that she was ready to take the victims to Delhi to Prime Minister, A B Vajpayee.

"If any of the woman victims wish to meet the Prime Minister to narrate their horrific experience, I will personally escort them to Delhi," Banerjee told a party rally in Ranaghat in protest against the February 6 incident at Dhantala.

She said that a similar incident occurred on February 23 at Liliuah in Howrah district, where women passengers of a marriage party were molested and robbed while returning home.

Banerjee said she would also visit Liluah shortly.

The TC supremo who has already demanded a CBI probe into the Dhantala incident alleging that the CID investigation was 'unreliable', questioned why medical tests had not been conducted on the women passengers to ascertain rape and molestation.
