Kuala Lumpur: Violating Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) charter that bars raising
bilateral issues, Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf on February 24 raked up the
Kashmir problem at the NAM summit, saying the grouping should recognise the "right
of self-determination" in Kashmir.
Addressing the summit that opened on February 24, Musharraf said the legitimate
right of people of Kashmir and Palestine have been recognised by the United Nations
and NAM should not shy away from the issue in a "selective manner".
Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, in his speech later in the day, is expected to
respond to the Pakistani leader's attack.
Musharraf also alleged "human rights violations" in Kashmir, Palestine and Rwanda.
He said he was opposed to terrorism, but wanted the root cause of the menace also
addressed by the 116-member grouping.
