Shimla: Accusing Congress of adopting double standards on contentious issues,
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on February 24 said the party should spell out its stand
on Ayodhya, cow slaughter, religious conversions, hindutva and POTA (Prevention of
Terrorism Act).
"Congress is in a state of utter confusion, it is supporting Organised Crime Act in
Maharashtra and Karnataka but opposing POTA," BJP president Venkaiah Naidu told
reporters in Shimla.
He said Congress was opposing the bill on religious conversions in Tamil Nadu but
supporting it in Madhya Pradesh.
Congress had also backed out from the consensus arrived at the all party meeting to
approach the court for expeditious disposal of Ayodhya dispute, Naidu alleged.
The BJP chief said the Congress dithered on the issue of granting voting rights to
serving jawans and checking infiltration from across the border.
Demanding an unconditional apology from Congress for the "malicious" propaganda
unleashed by its Madhya Pradesh youth wing against Prime Minister Atal Behari
Vajpayee that he ate beef, Naidu said BJP would be compelled to file a defamation
suit if an apology was not tendered.
