Kohima: A strict security blanket was thrown across the hill state of Nagaland and
night curfew clamped in Kohima district to pre-empt disruptions and ensure peaceful
Assembly polls in the state on February 26.
Deputy commissioner Norman Putsure ordered imposition of night curfew in Kohima
district on February 24 and 25 from 7.00 pm to 5.00 am (IST) in view of polls,
official sources said.
Over 17,000 state police personnel, home guards, village guards and additional 75
companies of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), nine battalions of Assam Rifles
and one brigade of the Army would provide environmental security in the state, the
sources said.
There have been reports of large-scale intimidation and threats to voters by
supporters of political parties, underground activists and antisocial elements from
different parts of Nagaland for the past two weeks, the sources added.
