New Delhi: Acrimonious exchanges between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the
Opposition on the Ayodhya issue on February 24 forced adjournment of Rajya Sabha
twice in the post lunch session, with the ruling party members taking exception to
reference to the matter saying it was sub-judice.
Vociferous members from treasury benches repeatedly interrupted Congress member
Kapil Sibal as he accused the ruling party of indulging in politics of cow,
distribution of 'trishuls' and referring to eating habits of individuals to sway
masses.
Referring to the Ayodhya issue, Sibal said hearing in the case was almost complete,
with both sides having produced their witnesses and a ruling could be expected soon.
This led to an uproar, with both the sides trading charges forcing vice-chairman
Suresh Pachouri to adjourn the House for 10 minutes.
As the matter appeared to be unresolved, Nilotpal Basu again adjourned the House for
20 minutes. However, after two adjournments, tempers cooled down and Sibal was
allowed to complete his submission amid din.
