ULFA ultras hurl bombs at airport, no casualty
Monday, February 24 2003 11:28 Hrs (IST)

Guwahati: The banned United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) on February 23 night hurled mortar bombs near the Indian Air Force station in the vicinity of the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati, but there was no casualty.

Some ULFA militants hurled "low intensity" mortar bombs in a vacant area near the boundary wall of the IAF station on the western side and escaped, Guwahati (city) superintendent of police Hiren Nath said.

A joint operation was launched by the Guwahati police and Kamrup district police to track them down, he said, adding that no was injured in the incident.

The militants could have been targetting the IAF men inside the station, Nath said.

This was the third such attack by the ULFA militants in recent months.
