New Delhi: In the wake of reports of possible terrorist strikes, the US Embassy in
New Delhi has advised American citizens in the country to exercise vigilance when in
the vicinity of government installations, visiting tourist sites or attending public
events.
In a warden message to American nationals, the Embassy asked them to avoid these
locations over the next few days.
The message was intended to ensure that American citizens were aware of the concern
of Indian authorities.
Security has been beefed up at India Gate and important government buildings in the
Capital following intelligence reports of possible terror strikes.
The Embassy clarified that there was no information of any specific threat to
American citizens in India.
Reminding of the November 20 travel warning issued by the US state department, it
said the American citizens "should therefore exercise vigilance when in the vicinity
of government installations, visiting tourist sites or attending public events"
throughout India.
The state department had observed that terrorist groups including those linked to al-
Qaida were active in India and had attacked and killed civilians.
