Shimla: Congress on February 25 said BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) and VHP (Vishwa
Hindu Parishad) were two sides of the same coin and the overtly confrontationist
attitude of the VHP was only a part of a bigger game-plan.
It has become a part of the strategy of the VHP to arrange "side shows" to boost poll
prospects of BJP whenever elections were around, Congress spokesman Anand Sharma told
reporters in Shimla.
He said BJP was desperate as it failed to play Hindu card in Himachal Pradesh and its
efforts to fan communal passions by resorting to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra
Modi's style hindutva had been thwarted by the people of the state.
There were no differences between BJP and VHP and the two sister organisations were
adopting "fascist tactics" to be in the government on the one hand and to arrogate
the role of Opposition also to themselves on the other, Sharma said.
