New Delhi: Kashmir Committee on February 25 sacked its convenor Ashok Bhan for his
recent statement that the committee had suspended its activities and said the
committee would continue to pursue its dialogue process.
In a statement, the Kashmir Committee said that it "is extremely unhappy about the
announcement by its convenor, which has been disowned immediately".
"His (Bhan's) connection with the committee has been terminated and the committee is
unanimously of the view that it is imperative in the interest of the country that it
should vigorously pursue its objective of finding and facilitating a peaceful,
honourable and lasting solution of the chronic problem of Kashmir," the statement
said.
It said that the committee would continue to promote dialogue with all "relevant
elements within and outside the country".
While welcoming the appointment of former Home Secretary N N Vohra as new
interlocutor of the Centre, the committee said it does not believe that its role "is
exhausted by this (Vohra's) appointment".
Bhan had said on February 23 that the committee was suspending its operations of
holding talks with the separatist groups in the state and that this suspension could
be treated as a prelude to its winding up operations.
