Militants strike on eve of polls in Tripura

Agartala: Militants struck on the eve of the Assembly polls in Left Front ruled Tripura attacking a BSF (Border Security Force) convoy with grenades injuring four security men, kidnapped two CPM (Communist Party of India-Marxist) supporters while the bodies of three of their abducted victims were found today (Feb 25), the police said.

NLFT (National Liberation Front of Tripura) cadres, targeted the BSF convoy hurling two grenades injuring the four security men at forested Gulsingbari in the jurisdiction of Champahaor police station, before escaping, the police said.

The injured security men were admitted to the G B Hospital in a critical condition as the BSF and the police searched for the attackers, the sources said.

The NLFT kidnapped two CPM supporters at gunpoint this morning from Shambhucharanpara in Jirania police station area of the same district, the sources said.

The body of a 26-year-old tribal woman CPM activist, Manirung Tripura (26) abducted on February 24 night by miscreants when she was returning home from Purathal Rajbari market in South Tripura district was found today, the police said.

The body bearing multiple cut injuries was discovered from the nearby Wangcherra rubber garden.

Kishore Reang, elder brother of the CPM candidate in Kanchanpur constituency in North district was taken away at gunpoint from Kanchanpur town and shot dead by the NLFT, the sources said. His bullet-riddled body was found today.
