Vadodara: Security has been beefed up in Godhra town in adjoining Panchamahal
district of Gujarat in view of bandh and a condolence programme by the Shiv Sena on
February 27 at the railway station, where 59 Ramsevaks were burnt alive on February
27 last year, police said on February 26.
A company of border security wing of Home Guards and three companies of paramilitary
forces have been deployed in the town, police said.
Fifty-nine Ramsevaks were burnt alive and 43 others injured when the S-6 coach of
Sabarmati Express was set afire at platform No 1.
About 100 Shiv Sainiks have planned to take out a procession to the gutted coach at
the railway station yard and pay tributes to those killed in the gruesome incident,
sources said.
The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has also planned to observe the day as "balidan"
divas.
Meanwhile, city police commissioner Din Dayal Tuteja said mobile patrol vans in
Vadodara have been directed to keep round-the-clock vigil in the sensitive areas of
the city.
Additional police pickets have been set up in the walled city alongwith deployment
of special reserve police (SRP) companies, he added.
Joint police commissioner Pritamsinh Thakur said the senior officials were
personally supervising the security arrangement.
