New Delhi: Polling on February 26 began on a dull note for the Assembly elections in
Himachal Pradesh, with only about 10 per cent votes being caste in the first two
hours even as the turnout in Nagaland, Tripura and Meghalaya was moderate and the
exercise peaceful despite militants' threats.
Long queues were seen outside some booths in the three North Eastern states.
In Himachal, intense cold and snow played spoil sport in the initial hours, as the
usual long queues at the start of polling was missing.
It was snowing in Kullu and Palampur, where the turnout so far was about three per
cent.
In the mid-hills, about five per cent turnout was recorded, while in lower areas in
Mandi, Una, Nahan, Sundernagar, Hamirpur and Kangra seven to 10 per cent polling was
registered.
The state capital Shimla too witnessed dull polling, with only about a handful of
voters sighted in most of the polling booths.
