Colombo: Sri Lanka would enter into an Information Technology (IT) and
communications agreement with India during Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe's
three-day India visit, which gets underway later on February 27, a senior Minister
announced.
The Cabinet of Ministers on February 26 gave approval for the Ministry of Science
and Technology to enter into the deal to coincide with the Prime Minister's visit,
Constitutional Affairs Minister G L Peiris said.
Details of the agreement were not immediately available, but Peiris said Sri Lanka
stands to gain from India's success in the IT sector as well as the communications
field.
Sri Lanka has been pushing to seek Indian investments in the IT sector.
During his three-day visit, Wickremesinghe will hold talks with Prime Minister Atal
Behari Vajpayee, as well as several other leaders, including Opposition leader Sonia
Gandhi and former Prime Ministers P V Narasimha Rao and I K Gujral.
