Kohima: Two women were killed in police firing in Nagaland's Zunheboto district on
February 26 night, taking the toll in violence during polling to the 60-member
Assembly in the state to four, as returning officers recommended re-poll in 41
polling booths, official sources said.
Re-polling will be held on February 28.
Policemen escorting polling officials returning to base opened fire, killing the two
women when a mob attacked them and injured a policemen, besides destroying
electronic voting machines at Aghunato in Zunheboto, the sources said.
Two others, one in Kohima and another in Mokchung district, died on February 26 in
poll-related violence.
Though returning officers have recommended re-poll in 41 booths, re-poll has been
ordered so far in 16 booths, the chief executive officer's (CEO) office said.
Many of the booths where re-poll was recommended registered between 80 per cent to
100 per cent voting, the sources said.
The CEO's office received recommendation for re-poll in Wokha (five), Kohima
(seven), Zunheboto (five), Mokokchung (one), Tuensang (10), Mon (five) and Phek
(eight) districts.
