Chennai: Creating an air of suspense, Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK)
leader and Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA) detenue Vaiko on February 28 said that
his party would take a decision on March 1 "which will be a milestone in MDMK's
history".
Declining to comment to a question by reporters on whether it was related to the
MDMK coming out of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance
(NDA) at the Centre, Vaiko said, "You will come to know tomorrow after a meeting of
the party's general council here."
Talking to reporters outside the designated POTA court at suburban Poonamallee,
where he and eight other partymen were brought in connection with the case against
them under the anti-terrorism Act, he said his party district secretaries had
consulted him on February 28 on the decision.
He said a draft resolution would be drafted at the MDMK district secretaries meeting
on February 28 and announced on March 1.
Significantly, for the first time since the inception of the MDMK in the early
1990's, the general council meeting (11th) would be held without the participation
of the party's general secretary and four district secretaries.
