Nagaland CM S C Jamir to resign on March 3
Sunday, March 2 2003 20:42 Hrs (IST)

Kohima: S C Jamir on March 2 said he would resign from the post of Nagaland Chief Minister and that of the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president on March 3 paving the way for formation of a coalition government in the state by the Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN).

"I will resign tomorrow after counting for the remaining two constituencies is over and would prefer to sit in the Opposition respecting the people's verdict," Jamir said.

The newly-elected MLAs would meet soon but there was no such possibility of staking claim unless there was "committed support" from other parties, Jamir told reporters.

Owning the moral responsibility of the defeat, the Chief Minister said, "The election was not free and fair and rather it was a war between Jamir and National Socialist Council of Nagalim – Issac/Muivah (NSCN-IM) which the latter won."
