Jammu: The roadmap for the peace dialogue in Jammu and Kashmir would be drawn up by
the Centre in consultation with the Jammu and Kashmir government, Chief Minister
Mufti Mohammad Sayeed said on March 4 while urging the parties to develop consensus
on the issue.
The Centre's nominee will first talk to the elected representatives and then only a
map for dialogue would be drawn up, Sayeed told the state Assembly during Question
Hour.
Replying to a supplementary, the Chief Minister said the dialogue "would be
unconditional" and there would be "no pick and choose".
He urged the political parties to adopt a common approach and arrive at consensus
for talks with the interlocutor appointed by the Centre, N N Vohra, whom he
described as a "man of integrity", credited with very high profile
assignments.
Sayeed said the talks have materialised due to the strenuous efforts of the
coalition government and recalled the statement of Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani
that talks would be held with the elected representatives of the state.
The Chief Minister urged the political parties to avail of the opportunity,
saying, "Such opportunities do not come again and again."
Replying to the observations about Vohra being a former bureaucrat, the Chief
Minister said in the process of Indira-Sheikh accord in the 70s, the dialogue was
conducted through a bureaucrat, G Parthasarthy.
