Urea price hike: PM tells BJP MPs not to go public

Vajpayee takes umbrage at BJP MPs airing views in public New Delhi: With the increase in price of fertilisers coming in for criticism within the party, Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee on March 4 asked Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs from going public on the issue.

Addressing the first meeting of BJP Parliamentary party after presentation of the Union Budget, he said their views on the issue should be conveyed to Finance Minister Jaswant Singh.

The Prime Minister told members to refrain from expressing their views on the issue in the media, party spokesman V K Malhotra told reporters after the meeting.

Immediately after the Budget, party president M Venkaiah Naidu had said he would discuss the matter with Vajpayee since it concerned the interest of agriculture sector.
