New Delhi: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president Laloo Prasad Yadav may have to go
hungry if he does not direct party members to support the Women's Reservation Bill.
This threat has come from unexpected quarters – his wife and Bihar Chief Minister
Rabri Devi.
Rabri conveyed this to Parliamentary Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, who contacted
her as part of efforts to evolve a consensus on the Women's Reservation Bill.
RJD is among the parties opposing in its present form the Constitutional Amendment
Bill seeking to ensure 33 per cent reservation for women in Lok Sabha and state
Assemblies.
"Rabri Devi told me she will stop her husband's "dana-pani" if the women's Bill is
not passed," Swaraj said, adding she was trying to work on women leaders for a
consensus on the Legislation ahead of an all-party meeting on March 7.
Swaraj said she told Rabri Devi that once the Bill was passed she could treat Laloo
to "litti chokha" (a Bihari delicacy).
