HC order may affect status quo: Muslim Board
Wednesday, March 5 2003 22:40 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) on March 5 said the Allahabad High Court order on the excavation at the disputed site in Ayodhya might affect the status quo and delay the process of expediting the case.

"My first reaction is that the Muslim Personal Law Board and Muslims have complete faith in judiciary. An official reaction would come from the Board, but my personal reaction is that it may delay the whole process," AIMPLB spokesman Kamal Farooqui said.

Reacting to the order of the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court, he said the whole process might be delayed as some body might in appeal against the decision.

"I fear it may also affect the status quo" at the site, he said.

Expressing similar opinion on the order, convenor of the Babri Masjid Action Committee (BMAC) Zafaryab Jilani said he would be consulting Siddharth Shanker Ray, lawyer of AIMPLB on the issue, and then only "we will decide whether to go for an appeal or not".
