Kohima: Neiphiu Rio was on March 5 unanimously elected leader of the Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN), which will stake claim to form government.

Rio was earlier elected as leader of the Nagaland People's Front (NPF) Legislature party.

The NPF is the major constituent of the five-party conglomeration after the National Democratic Movement with five Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) was formally inducted into the alliance.

Talking to reporters, afterwards, Rio said the NDM will take part in the government formation.

In the 60-member Assembly, DAN now has 38 MLAs in its fold, including four independents.

NPF is the leading DAN constituent having 19 seats followed by 7 of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
