Four Dhantala accused remanded to police custody
Thursday, March 6 2003 22:52 Hrs (IST)

Krishnanagar (WB): Four persons, accused of rape and molestation of women bus passengers at Dhantala in Nadia district in February, were remanded to five days' police custody by a district court on March 6.

The four, including the three arrested from Kalna in Barddhaman district on March 5, were remanded by sub-divisional judicial magistrate (SDJM) Ranaghat, Vivekananda Pramanick.

Fourteen others arrested earlier and in judicial custody now were also produced before the SDJM in a packed court room.

When Communist party of India-Marxist (CPM) leaders Subal Bagchi and Mohammed Sahidul were being brought to the court, Trinamool Congress activists raised slogans against them at the court premises.

Six women, including four minors, were allegedly raped and molested on February 6 at Dhantala in Nadia district, when they were returning from a wedding reception in two buses. The miscreants also shot dead one of the drivers and looted valuables from passengers.
