New Delhi: A Senior scientific officer (SSO) of Central Forensic Science Laboratory
(CFSL) was arrested by Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) at Indira Gandhi
International Airport on March 7 with Rs 64 lakh cash in his possession while he was
boarding a flight to Dubai, official sources said.
The SSO, identified as C K Jain, who was placed under arrest is alleged to be
involved in hawala racket operating between the country and the port-city, the
sources said.
Acting on an intelligence tip-off, the DRI officials swooped on him while he was
boarding a flight to Dubai at the airport in the wee hours of March 7, the sources
said.
Jain, an SSO grade I, works in the Physics division of CFSL, which comes under the
Ministry of Home Affairs, the sources said.
He was being questioned by the DRI officials, the sources said and added that the
Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) was also keeping a close watch on him after
some inputs suggested his involvement in the hawala racket.
Notably, hawala channel is also being used by militant groups and underworld
criminals to send in money for anti-national activities.
