Ahmedabad: For the first time in Gujarat, a special Prevention of Terrorism Act
(POTA) court will be set up in the city to hear all cases related to the anti-
terrorist Law invoked against the 131 accused in Godhra train carnage, official
sources said on March 7.
The court will be established at the city sessions and district court, sources said.
"The Gujarat government, through a notification late last night (March 6),
designated city sessions court as the special POTA court and all cases pertaining to
this will be heard here," sources said.
The notification for appointment of a special public prosecutor is likely to be
issued later on March 7.
Meanwhile, the hearing on a petition for further extension of remand of main
conspirator of Godhra train carnage Maulana Hussain Umarji, which was to take place
in Godhra sessions court could not be held, with the court observing that all the
further hearings will be conducted in the special POTA court in Ahmedabad, sources
said.
