Teranpur (MP): Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani on March 8 said Bangladesh has been
firmly told to curb infiltration and check ISI agents operating from its soil from
carrying out terrorist activities in India.
Addressing a Parliamentary Consultative Committee meeting of the Home Ministry at the
BSF Academy in Teranpur, he said New Delhi's strong reservations on the issue, which
led to border tension between the two countries recently, were conveyed to the
Bangladeshi Foreign Minister during his recent visit to the capital.
The Bangladesh Foreign Minister gave an assurance that his country would take
necessary steps in this regard, Advani told the 12 MPs who attended the meeting,
Minister of State for Home Affairs I D Swami told reporters.
The Deputy Prime Minister also told them that Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf was
under tremendous international pressure but was not doing enough to check
cross-border
terrorism.
He said the situation vis-a-vis infiltration kept fluctuating but incidents have not
come down.
The government was also taking steps to gradually replace the BSF in Jammu and
Kashmir as per the recommendations of the Group of Ministers, which favoured "one
force for one border".
Out of 37 members of the Consultative Committee only 12 attended the meeting.
Those who attended the meeting included Minister of State for Home Affairs Harin
Pathak, Home Secretary N Gopalaswami and BSF (Border Security Force) Director General
Ajai Raj Sharma.
