Ahmedabad: In a path-breaking step, Gujarat government has made it compulsory to
mention mother's name at the time of admitting children in schools in Gujarat.
Chief Minister Narendra Modi announced the same on March 8 while addressing a rally
of rural women on the occasion of International Women's Day.
He said Gujarat is the first state, where mentioning of mother's name at the time of
school admission has been mandatory.
Official sources said a notification has already issued to schools making it
mandatory for them to ensure mother's name is mentioned in admission forms.
They said the forms may contain the students' father names, but it is not necessary.
