Varanasi: Accusing the Western nations of trying to impose their supremacy in the
world after accumulating wealth, Union Human Resource Minister Murli Manohar Joshi
on March 9 said the looming war on Iraq was for its oil reserves and not disarmament.
The crisis in Iraq was only to capture its oil resources and not for destroying arms
there, Joshi said delivering the convocation address at the Institute of Higher
Tibetan Studies at Sarnath.
The desire for unlimited power and money and materialistic approach had divided the
nations, he said, adding the Western countries were imposing their supremacy in the
world after accumulating resources.
Lashing out against the votaries of liberalisation, he said treating the world as a
global village instead of a global family posed dangers for humanity.
The world was facing fear of war, terrorism and conflicts due to materialism and
consumerism, he said.
The acceptance of preaching of Gautam Buddha based on non-violence and compassion
only could save humanity and establish peace in the world, he said.
He was conferred the honorary degree of 'Vakpati' (D Lit) at the convocation.
