Islamabad: Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf' nephew was detained for two weeks by
the US officials cracking down on the illegal immigrants, but was later released on
bail.
Musharraf's nephew, Aamir Javed was detained on Feb 19 for visa violations and was
released on March 7, according to a report in the 'Dawn' daily in Islamabad.
Javed, whose US visa expired in 1994 would now have to appear before immigration
judge who could order him deported or allow to stay in the United States, it
said.
The report said that Javed, resident of Memphis, Tennesse, had informed his family in
Pakistan about his detention. "But so far nobody in the government in Islamabad
contacted the Embassy to help him out," the newspaper quoted an official at the
Pakistan Embassy in Washington as saying.
Javed was detained when he went to a local immigration office to register to abide by
the directive of the US government to people from 25 mostly Muslim countries
including Pakistan to be photographed and fingerprinted.
