Ranchi: Serious charges, including sedition, against 12 policemen have been filed
for their alleged role in the recent five-day mass leave agitation by the Jharkhand
Policemen's Association (JPMA).
The Gonda police station sources said the first information report (FIR), which was
filed late March 8 night by sergeant major of the Ranchi police lines, alleged the
policemen broke the Law themselves and provoked the constabulary to follow
them.
JPMA's president Ram Chandra Pandey along with Abhimanyu Yadav, Laxmi Paswan,
Nagendra Dubey, Alamgir Khan, Ravindra Sharma, D N Tiwari, Ramchandra Singh, Ashok
Singh, Mantu Paswan, Sachchidanand Sharma and Mahaddev Yadav were booked under
sections 121(a), 144, 186, 188, 190, 294, 353, 414, 504 and 505 of Indian Penal Code
(IPC).
Some sections are non-bailable, the sources said.
The JPMA president, whose association went on mass leave protest on February 22,
claimed they had called off the protest after Chief Minister Babulal Marandi had
assured them to look into their demands which included promotions without appearing
any test.
