New Delhi: Top officers of the armed forces have briefed Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee and his deputy L K Advani on the situation that may develop in case of a US-led attack on Iraq.

The two-hour briefing, which took place in the Defence Ministry in South Block on March 9, was aimed at giving the top leadership an overview of the possible scenario and its effects on India and the region, official sources said on March 10.

The meeting, which was also attended by Defence Minister George Fernandes, came ahead of today's all-party meeting on Iraq convened by the Prime Minister.

Without giving details about the meeting, the sources said the Prime Minister and the Deputy Prime Minister were given a detailed briefing on the likely scenario that may build up if case of a war on Iraq and the military perception of it.
