Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government has disbursed at total of Rs 1,654.50 lakh as
compensation to 1,103 kins of those killed in the post Godhra communal riots in the
state last year, the legislative Assembly was informed on March 10.
Revenue Minister Kaushik Patel said, "Besides Rs 1,645.50 lakh disbursed as death
compensation, Rs 193.17 lakh was paid as compensation in 2,515 cases of injuries."
To a question from deputy leader of Opposition Bharat Solanki (Congress), Patel said
nationalised banks have granted loans of Rs 927.07 lakh to nearly 2,833 petty
businessmen belonging to Baxi-Panch and minorities in the state.
To another question by Farooq Sheikh (Congress), the Minister said the government
has spent Rs 11.95 crore for providing food for families in relief camps set up for
riot affected people.
Patel in another written reply told the House that the state government has received
Rs 77.20 crore out of the Rs 150 crore package announced by Prime Minister to aid
the riot victims.
The last instalment of Rs 15.31 crore was received on May 7 last year, he added.
