Srinagar: Three persons including a top Hizbul Mujahideen militant and a Special
Police Officer were killed and two Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) ultras arrested in Kashmir
Valley since March 9 night, official sources said on March 10.
Hizbul ultra Mohammad Amin Bhat alias Rizwan was killed by security forces during an
operation at Khandoora village in Anantnag district of South Kashmir, the sources
said.
A Defence spokesman said the militant was killed in an encounter and a pistol with
some ammunition was recovered from him. However, the residents of the village alleged
that the deceased was arrested by Army from Teilwani village and later tortured to
death.
A Pakistan-trained militant, Rizwan was active since 1990. He was arrested three
years ago, but escaped from the custody of the security forces, the sources
said.
They said body of a Special Police Officer (SPO) Altaf Ahmad Tantray was recovered
from Bandipora area of Baramulla district on March 10. Tantray was associated with
special operations group of local police and was killed by militants.
Unidentified militants also shot dead one, Mushtaq Ahmad Ganai at Wanpoh village in
Anantnag on March 9 night. Ganai was an employee in agriculture department and the
motive behind his killing was not known immediately, the sources said.
They said two LeT militants, Abdul Rehman Bhat and Mushtaq Ahmad Dar were arrested by
security forces from Khundroo in Anantnag and Check-Fagipora in Kupwara on March
9.
